*client*: let me tell what i did. i go to *web address*
*tech*: Ok
*client*: and then it opens with a window
*tech*: It should prompt you to log in
*client*: i type in *username* as username, and the password
*tech*: wrong.
*tech*: You type in your email address and the email addresses password.
*client*: oh *password* let me try now
*tech*: Sure.
*client*: no it doesnt work
*client*: i went to the same url
*client*: and then it opens a window
*client*: and then i type in *username*
*client*: and the password
*client*: and it says wrong password
*tech*: I reset it to the password you gave me.
*tech*: the *password* one.
*tech*: Probably your cpanel password I would imagine
*tech*: You can change this to whatever you like in the email accounts section of your cpanel.
*client*: correct, i use the same password
*tech*: Try going to *web address*
*client*: nothing happens when i click this url, it returns blank
*client*: sorry it is ok
*tech*: Does it bring up the webmail login page?
*client*: yes it does
*tech*: Then you put in *username*
*client*: but i type my *username* and the password *password* but login failed
I'm told this continued for about another 30 minutes until:
*client*: OK I THINK IT IS SORTED OUT
*client*: I type the email password with a lowercase *letter*
*client*: it seems the email password is case sensitive and the username password is not
*tech*: Sounds like your caps lock is on.
*client*: am i right to say that
*tech*: lower *letter* does not work unless your caps lock is on and so it is putting in a capitol *letter*
*client*: it seems the email password is case sensitive and the username password is not
*client*: am i right to say that
*tech*: Every password is case sensative
*client*: let me try this
*client*: no, it is something you should be aware of
*client*: the username password is NOT CASE SENSITIVE
*client*: OK I GOT THE MYSTERY SOLVE
*tech*: Ok
*client*: the username password and the email password are both case sensitive, but different case
*client*: the above solves the mystery of shylock holmes
*client*: you have been patient,
*client*: thanks for going through this with me
*tech*: You're welcome.
Yes the client said: "Shylock Holmes." He must be a distant cousin far removed from the gene pool of Sherlock Holmes.
Just so everyone is aware, yes, passwords are indeed case-sensitive. At least any reputable password scheme is.
