Off The Clock: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Rather than do the normal "What You Say, What We Hear" post today, I thought I'd try another idea. That being to do an off-the-clock recreation review.
With that said, I'm going to review Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. (As if the title of this post wasn't enough of a clue.)
My interest in seeing this particular movie started when I went to see Kick Ass, this was one of the 20 minutes of trailers that are now common place before a movie. (The studios scream that piracy and tough markets are forcing them do this kind of thing. Never mind they keep posting high box office numbers and such.)
But my bitching aside, the trailer looked pretty promising.
The Premise: An average, well lets be honest, a rather anemic looking Joe, having to battle 7 evil exes to be with his love interest.
General Impression: After plopping down into my seat for a afternoon matinee with my date, I couldn't help but smile at the eight bit splendor that was presented during the opening of the movie.
Several references to some cherished childhood video games and some very fast moving fight scenes later, the movie was over. The result was nothing I could have expected.
As one of my friends put it ever so eloquently: This movie is very clever.
Cleverness is pretty much where this ADHD inducing blur of comic book and video game inspired, visual hipstery ends.
The story flows like a drug trip you watch while you're on a drug trip. That said however, there were moments I was laughing at the the all of the references made to the aforementioned video games.
My Recommendation: If you've got a love of video games, and a couple hours to kill in an afternoon. This movie is worth seeing once, give it a Matinee viewing and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
